Monmouth Secures Bounce Back Win Over Yale, 2-1

FINAL SCORE
Monmouth (7-4) – 2
Yale (6-4) – 1

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – A strong third quarter gave the Monmouth University Field Hockey team a 2-1 victory over Yale at So Sweet A Cat on Sunday afternoon, snapping a three-game losing skid for the Hawks.

After a tightly contested and scoreless first half, Monmouth found its stride in the third quarter, scoring two quick goals off penalty corners. The first came at the 33:50 mark when Anna Moors netted her fourth goal of the season, assisted by Johanna Karlhuber and Jess Tucker. Just minutes later, Sofia Fouces doubled the Hawks' lead with her team-leading sixth goal of the year at 35:22. Karlhuber was pivotal once again, contributing her second assist of the game, while Lauren Relik also added an assist.

Yale, who managed 19 shots throughout the contest, responded in the fourth quarter when Poppy Beales found the back of the net at 52:49, assisted by Victoria Collee. Yale's largest offensive push of the day came in the final two minutes, but the Hawks were able to thwart each chance and hold on for the win. Monmouth goalkeeper Jessie Eiselin made eight saves for her seventh victory of the season.

A defensive save by Moors midway through the fourth, a shot off the crossbar in the final 17 seconds by the Bulldogs, and Monmouth's ability to capitalize on set pieces made the difference.

QUOTES
"Super happy that we were able to bounce back after a really good game on Friday minus the outcome we wanted. I am really excited about the resiliency of this team. Having a growth mindset has been the philosophy from day one this year. We want to be our best when it really matters, and today proved we can be." – Head Coach Carli Figlio

"I am really proud of how the team played today. I think we have been great, unfortunately the last few results don't reflect how we showed up and battled. I want this team to keep on going, and I don't think we have to change much. Today was big to get our confidence back up." – Senior midfielder Johanna Karlhuber
