WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – Monmouth University Field Hockey sophomore defender
Anna Moors was named the Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) Co-Defensive Player of the Week, the conference announced Monday afternoon.
It is the second time this season Moors has been honored for the weekly honor, with the first coming back on Sept. 9.
Moors shined in a 1-1 weekend for the Hawks, tallying her first career hat trick in the 6-1 victory over LIU on Sunday. She was credited with the game-winning goal when she scored off a corner try at the 27:10 mark and added her second corner conversion to extend the lead to 3-1 at 39:41. The Netherlands native blasted home a rebound late in the third quarter to cap off the trifecta.
In addition to her offensive prowess, Moors led the shutdown of the Sharks defensively allowing just three LIU shot attempts to Monmouth's 28. The sophomore is putting together a fantastic season, as she is now tied atop the Hawks for the team lead with eight goals – a mark that ranks tied for fourth in the CAA.
"She has been asked to fill a big position at center back for us," Head Coach
Carli Figlio said. "She has really come into her own and has made some huge strides in her all-around play."
Moors and the Hawks (10-6, 2-3 CAA) host William & Mary in the final game of the regular season on Friday, Nov. 1 at So Sweet A Cat Field. The game will be broadcast live on FloSports at 2 p.m. A win would secure Monmouth's spot in the CAA Tournament for the third straight season.
