COLUMBIA OUTLASTS MONMOUTH IN TIGHT CONTEST

FINAL SCORE

WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ – After thunderstorms postponed Friday's initial matchup, the Monmouth University Field Hockey Team was defeated by Columbia, 2-1, in Saturday's 10 a.m. make-up game.

With the game scoreless in the second quarter, Columbia got on the board first on a reverse shot after a corner entry. At the half, the Lions held a 1-0 lead, with the shots (six) and saves (three) being tied.

Monmouth's India Shakespeare netted her first career goal 7:17 into the third quarter to tie the contest at one apiece. The graduate senior now has a goal and an assist on the 2023 season. Just two and a half minutes later, the Lions retook the lead off a rebound.

Columbia was able to hold off the Hawks push in the fourth quarter, despite being doubled up on shots (6-3). Freshman goalkeeper Jessie Eiselin made seven saves in the 2-1 loss.
