STRONG FIRST HALF POWERS MONMOUTH OVER WAGNER, 4-1

STATEN ISLAND, NY - Four different Hawks found the back of the net as the Monmouth University Field Hockey Team defeated Wagner by a score of 4-1 on Monday afternoon at the Wagner Field Hockey Complex.

Junior forward Sofia Fouces scored her seventh goal of the season 7:01 into the first quarter on a scramble in close after a couple saves from Wagner's goalkeeper. Johanna Karlhuber was credited with her third assist of the season. Fouces has now scored in five of Monmouth's first six games of 2023.

On a corner try forty seconds into the second frame, Nora Goddard-Despot redirected a Fouces shot into the net to give Monmouth a 2-0 lead. The assist gives Fouces three on the year, and she now has 17 total points.

Karlhuber then scored her first goal of the season by going five-hole through traffic from the top of the circle with 3:24 remaining in the half. The Hawks would hold that 3-0 advantage at the end of the first 30 minutes with the shots heavily in their favor, 9-4.

Wagner was able to get the lone goal in the third quarter to cut the Monmouth lead down to two, but Jess Tucker slammed home an exclamation point goal with 2:13 left in the contest to seal the win.

Freshman goalkeeper Jessie Eiselin was solid in net all day long making five saves, including one in desperation to maintain the Hawks' 3-1 lead early in the fourth.
