EISELIN RECORDS SHUTOUT NO. 1 IN WIN OVER DREXEL

FINAL SCORE
Monmouth 1 (4-3, 1-0 CAA)
Drexel 0 (4-3, 0-1 CAA)

WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ – Freshman goalkeeper Jessie Eiselin recorded her first career shutout with a season-high nine saves as the Monmouth University Field Hockey Team defeated Drexel, 1-0, to open its 2023 CAA schedule on Friday afternoon.

Eiselin made big save after big save as she was tested all game long by a Drexel offense that landed 10 of its 16 shots on target. The Netherlands native has started every game for the Hawks this season, and now sports an impressive 1.75 goals against average and .760 save percentage – both of which rank second in the conference.

After Eiselin made back-to-back key saves in the dying seconds of the first quarter, junior forward Sofia Fouces scored the game's lone goal 1:29 into the second frame. Fouces, who is second in the CAA in goals this season, deflected in her eighth tally of the year off a shot from freshman Anna Moors, who was credited with her second assist.

In the second half, Eiselin made three saves, and her shutout was kept intact thanks to a defensive save by Moors with under two minutes remaining in the third. Drexel's offense came in waves in the fourth quarter, but the Hawks defense held strong to snag the 1-0 victory and start the CAA season on a high note.
