FOUCES STRIKES TWICE IN THE FOURTH TO DOWN NO. 20 DELAWARE

FINAL SCORE
Monmouth 2 (5-3, 2-0 CAA)
#20 Delaware 1 (4-5, 1-1 CAA)

NEWARK, DE – Junior forward Sofia Fouces scored twice within a three-minute span to give the Monmouth University Field Hockey Team a 2-1 victory over the 20th-ranked Delaware Blue Hens on Friday night.

It is the first Monmouth win over a ranked opponent since beating #17 Delaware, 3-2 in overtime, on September 4, 2022.

Entering the fourth quarter in a scoreless tie, the Blue Hens converted on a rebound to give them a 1-0 lead only 40 seconds in. Less than a minute later, Fouces scored her ninth goal of the season to tie the game, and just three minutes later, potted her CAA-leading 10th goal to put the Hawks in front, 2-1.

In the final minutes, Delaware earned a penalty stroke opportunity, but freshman goalkeeper Jessie Eiselin tracked it all the way and forced a shot that missed wide left. The Amsterdam native made two saves on the night to secure the Hawks' third consecutive win.
