NEW HAVEN, CT – Five different Hawks scored a goal in Monmouth University Field Hockey's 6-1 victory over the Sacred Heart Pioneers on Sunday afternoon at Yale's Johnson Field.
The Hawks have now won 14 consecutive games over Sacred Heart with Head Coach
Carli Figlio sporting a 15-1 record against the Pioneers.
Junior forward
Sofia Fouces scored her sixth goal of the season 5:31 into the first quarter to give Monmouth a 1-0 lead. Both
Johanna Karlhuber and
Nora Goddard-Despot picked up their second assists of the year on the corner try.
Aylin Aufenacker got on the board with her first goal of 2023 at the 10:12 mark in the same frame, extending the lead to two. Off of a corner,
Anna Moors's initial blast was blocked. Aufenacker pounced on the rebound but was, too, blocked before putting one over the head of the Pioneer goalkeeper on her second effort reverse shot.
In the second quarter, sophomore and New Jersey native
Alexa Ronning tallied her first career goal off an assist from Fouces to make it 3-0 Hawks – a lead they would hold at halftime.
Sacred Heart would cut the Monmouth lead down to two with a goal early in the third, but the
Jess Tucker responded with her first goal of two on the afternoon with 1:03 remaining in the frame. Tucker's second goal followed
Nora Goddard-Despot's first career goal for Monmouth and 10
th of her collegiate career, both of which came in the fourth quarter. Ronning, Moors, and Fouces each recorded assists on Monmouth's second half goals.
Freshman goalkeeper
Jessie Eiselin made three saves in 60 full minutes in net to help Monmouth win its second game of the young 2023 season.
