RICHMOND, Va. – Monmouth University women's soccer junior
Cassie Coster and freshman
Loren Gehret helped the Hawks post a 1-0-1 mark last week and were honored by the Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) on Monday for their efforts.
Coster was named the CAA Defensive Player of the Week while Gehret took home CAA Rookie of the Week accolades.
Coster was honored by the CAA for the first time this season and third time in her career (two-time defensive player of the week in 2022) while Gehret took home honors for the first time in her career.
Coster had a couple of strong performances in goal as she posted a 0.00 goals against average and a 1.000 save percentage in the two contests.
Coster posted a season-high eight saves in the 0-0 tie at William & Mary on Thursday night. The junior made several one-on-one saves or stops that required her to leap in the air. She had seven of her eight saves in the second half to help preserve the tie. On Sunday in the Hawks' 5-0 win at Hampton, Coster was not forced to make a save to secure her second straight shutout.
Coster enters play this week with a 1.33 goals against average and a .742 save percentage with three shutouts.
Gehret turned in a key performance to help Monmouth beat Hampton on Sunday afternoon. The freshman scored a goal in each half of the Hawks win. Gehret had three shots on the day and converted two of them. She also had a shot in the tie at William & Mary.
Gehret has appeared in five matches this season and recorded three goals on the year.
Monmouth is back in action on Thursday, Sept. 21 when it travels to Delaware for a 6 p.m. game.
