SYRACUSE, NY – The eighth-ranked Syracuse Orange defeated the Monmouth University Field Hockey Team by a score of 5-1 on Friday afternoon at J.S. Coyne Stadium.
Syracuse got off to a hot start scoring the first goal of the contest just 43 seconds in. The Orange would add onto their early lead with another goal at the 11:01 mark in the first, taking their 2-0 lead into the second quarter.
Sofia Fouces and the Hawks answered with a goal just under five minutes into the second frame. After causing a turnover at midfield, Fouces received a long pass from
Jess Tucker and lasered home a shot into the cage to cut the deficit to one.
Fouces now has five goals through three games has scored all but one of the Monmouth goals this season. Tucker leads the team with two assists.
Syracuse would not look back, however, adding three more goals and allowing just one more Monmouth shot for the rest of the game. Freshman goalkeeper
Jessie Eiselin made a season-high eight saves on 13 shots on goal in the loss.
