SMYRNA, TN - The Monmouth University team placed 18
th out of 30 teams and posted a 6-7 overall record at the Music City Classic this past weekend in Smyrna, TN, hosted by Vanderbilt University.
The Hawks came out hot on Friday with three consecutive wins over Aurora (832-827), Belmont Abbey (902-881), and Spalding (983-770) during Friday's Baker play, before dropping the last two to No. 17 Central Missouri and No. 19 Lincoln Memorial.
On Saturday in Traditional play, Monmouth picked up two more match wins, the first over Valparaiso, 952-897, and a huge 1,019-935 victory No. 6 Youngstown State. Monmouth's win total over ranked opponents this season rises to twelve after defeating the Penguins.
In the Championship-style tournament, the Hawks swept Carthage to begin the day, and placed 18
th overall.
Siyah Sweeny led MU with a 199.8 average and a pair of 200+ games, while
Jamie Phelan added two 200+ games of her own, including a high game of 230.
Sierra Poole also record a high game of 230, and freshman
Brillian Soedarmasto impressed with an even 200-pin game against the Penguins.
As a team, Monmouth knocked down an average of 181 pins over 65 total games. The Hawks outbowled their opponents 11,737-11,693 on the weekend.
