HAWKS STRIKE TWICE IN SECOND HALF TO ADVANCE TO CAA FINAL

FINAL SCORE
#1 Monmouth 2 (12-5)
#4 Northeastern 1 (8-10)

NEWARK, Del. – The Monmouth University Field Hockey Team advanced to its first CAA Championship game in program history after defeating the Northeastern Huskies, 2-1, in a semifinal matchup on Friday afternoon at the University of Delaware's Fred P. Rullo Stadium.

After a scoreless first half, All-CAA First Team member Jess Tucker broke the deadlock by deflecting in a Nora Goddard-Despot pass into the far corner of the net, giving the Hawks a 1-0 lead.

In the fourth, Monmouth took back-to-back penalties, and Northeastern would tie the game at one apiece with 7:22 remaining in regulation.

Graduate forward India Shakespeare responded just 3:09 later on a deflection in close that squeaked through the Northeastern goalkeeper. Sofia Fouces, the 2023 CAA Offensive Player of the Year, delivered the initial shot and was credited with her sixth assist of the season and CAA-leading 40th point.

On the afternoon, Monmouth got three saves from freshman goalkeeper Jessie Eiselin and held on over the final 4:13 for the one-goal win.
