WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ – For the second time in as many seasons, the Monmouth University Field Hockey Team won the Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) Field Hockey Regular Season Title following a 2-1 win over the Hofstra Pride on Friday afternoon at So Sweet A Cat Field.
Monmouth fell behind early as the Pride capitalized on their only shot on goal for the contest just 3:34 into the first quarter. Hofstra held the 1-0 lead at the half, although Monmouth generated more scoring chances and held a 10-2 shots advantage.

Johanna Karlhuber tied things up on a penalty stroke 1:53 into the second half. Hofstra was called for illegal touching inside the box on a Monmouth corner to give Karlhuber the opportunity to score her second goal of 2023.

Sofia Fouces scored her CAA-leading 17
th goal of the season after receiving a pass from freshman defender
Calista Schwartz – who caused a turnover at midfield.
Fouces's goal would hold as the Hawks held on for the 2-1 victory, as she leads the conference in game-winning goals with seven.
The Hawks will serve as the CAA Tournament's No. 1 seed in Newark, Del. Next weekend as four teams – Monmouth, Drexel, William & Mary, and Northeastern – play for an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament later this fall.
