HAWKS DROP ROAD GAME TO WILLIAM & MARY

FINAL SCORE
Monmouth 2 (9-5, 4-1 CAA)
William & Mary 3 (7-7, 4-2 CAA)

WILLIAMSBURG, VA – The Monmouth University Field Hockey Team was defeated by the William & Mary Tribe by a score of 3-2 on Friday afternoon in Virginia.

Junior forward Sofia Fouces opened the game's scoring 88 seconds in with her CAA-leading 14th goal of the season after the Tribe turned it over in their own circle.

William & Mary would score the next two – both in the first quarter – and held a 2-1 lead until Fouces scored her second of the game at the 2:38 mark of the second quarter. Graduate senior Nora Goddard-Despot created a turnover at midfield and fed freshman Lauren Relik ahead going the other way. Relik then drove a pass in front of the cage where Fouces made no mistake and potted her 15th of 2023 to tie the game at two.

The game remained tied at two until the Tribe struck midway through the third. Freshman goalkeeper Jessie Eiselin made some key saves down the stretch to keep the Hawks within one, but Monmouth would fall short at the end of regulation.

The Hawks can still clinch a Regular Season Title and the No. 1 seed in the CAA Championship with a win over Hofstra at home on Friday, Oct. 27.
