WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ - Monmouth University, in conjunction with the Colonial Athletic Association, has released the 2023 Monmouth Hawks Football Schedule.

Monmouth's schedule will feature 11 regular season games including five home games, a matchup with an FBS team and three games against teams which made the NCAA FCS playoffs last season.

"I am excited for the 2023 season," said Monmouth Head Coach
Kevin Callahan. "We have put together a non-conference schedule which features two regional opponents from the Patriot League and our sixth FBS opponent. The Colonial Athletic Association portion of the schedule features another highly competitive slate, with three 2022 playoff participants."

The Hawks will open the season on September 2, 2023 at FBS opponent Florida Atlantic University. Monmouth will be looking to secure its first win over an FBS opponent when it heads to Boca Raton to face the Owls from Conference USA.

Monmouth opens the CAA conference season in week two when it heads to Towson for a matchup against the Tigers. It will mark the first time since 2001 that the Hawks will play at Unitas Stadium. A familiar foe marks the home opener for the Hawks in Campbell University, who enters its first season in the CAA after spending the last few years in the Big South. The Hawks and Camels have played three previous times, with Monmouth winning the 2021 matchup down in North Carolina, 34-17.

The last two non-conference games of the 2023 season will come in back-to-back weeks against bitter rivals. Monmouth heads to Easton, PA to face Lafayette before welcoming Lehigh to Kessler Stadium on September 30 to wrap up the non-conference portion of the schedule.

Six games follow MU's October 7
th bye week, beginning with a home tilt on the 14
th against Hampton. The Hawks will embark on a two-game road trip against first-time opponents in Elon and William & Mary. Monmouth heads to North Carolina on October 21 to face nationally-ranked playoff participant Elon for the first meeting between the Hawks and Phoenix. A week later MU heads south again to face another first-time opponent in William & Mary. The Tribe are coming off a record setting season in which they finished eighth in the final NCAA Polls, shared the CAA Championship and advanced to the FCS quarterfinals.

Stony Brook returns to Monmouth for the second meeting in as many years on November 4, with playoff participant University of New Hampshire completing the home schedule the following week. It will be the second meeting between the Wildcats and Hawks and the first time UNH has played at Kessler Stadium. The 2023 regular season will end on November 18
th when the Hawks face long-time rival UAlbany for the 18
th overall meeting between the teams. Monmouth has won two-straight high scoring affairs against the Great Danes.

Monmouth returns four all-conference selections to the 2023 squad, including the reigning Offensive Player of the Year and FCS leading rusher in running back
Jaden Shirden. The Hawks will return seven starters on offense and 10 starters on defense.
