TORNEY ADDED TO TRACK AND FIELD COACHING STAFF

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – Monmouth University's Director of Track and Field and Cross Country, Mike Nelson, announced the addition of Jordan Torney to the coaching staff on Wednesday. Torney will primarily work with the Hawk sprinters and hurdlers.

"We're very excited to welcome Coach Jordan Torney into the Hawk track & field family," Nelson said.  "He comes from an outstanding program at UConn where he was a multiple time Big East conference champion and an NCAA National Qualifier. He was primarily a combined event athlete and hurdler while at UConn. I like to hire coaches with a combined event background because they have a great overall understanding of the sport along with an incredible work ethic.

"He is originally from Manchester Township High School and was an exceptional high school athlete here in New Jersey. Our student-athletes are lucky to get the opportunity to work with a young, enthusiastic coach who I believe will be a rising start in the collegiate coaching world."

Torney arrives in West Long Branch following a successful career athletically and academically at the University of Connecticut. A two-time Big East champion in the decathlon, he was also a national qualifier for the 2021 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Additionally, the decathlete earned the gold medal in the heptathlon at the 2019 IC4A Championships.

Torney brings a plethora of volunteer experience to West Long Branch as well. As a Husky, he was involved with the Big Brother program assisting younger track and field athletes at the university and the HuskyLeads program which provides local school children with tours of UConn. Torney has also helped coach young track and field athletes competing for USA Track and Field while working with his church organization to help provide food and clothes to those in need.

The New Jersey native graduated from UConn in May with a Bachelor of Arts in sociology, human development, and family studies with a concentration in social work, finishing with a major GPA of 3.75.
