WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – Sammi Ragenklint of the Monmouth University women's cross country and track and field squads has been named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District II team. The junior owns a 4.0 GPA as a biology major.
To be eligible for the Academic All-District Team, student-athletes must be in their second season or later at their current institution, be a key contributor to their team and carry a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 or higher.
Ragenklint was one of 12 honorees from the district which encompasses Division I Universities from the states of Delaware, Kentucky, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Washington DC, and West Virginia. Penn State, the University of Kentucky, the U.S. Naval Academy, and Western Kentucky each had two student-athletes selected to the All-District II team, while Monmouth, Duquesne, Temple, and West Virginia had one student-athlete apiece.
Ragenklint became the first Hawk in school history to qualify for the NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships last fall, clocking in with a time of 20:28.6 in the Mid-Atlantic Regionals. She crossed the line at the NCAA Championships in 87th place, finishing with a time of 20:25.7 in the 6k race which had 255 entrants.
The junior continued to have success during the indoor and outdoor track and field campaigns. At the ECAC/IC4A Indoor Championships, she set a new school record in the 5000m, winning the event with a time of 16:20.79. At the MAAC Outdoor Championships earlier this month, she finished second in the 10,000m event behind teammate
Mackenzie Jones, clocking in at 36:09.67 which is third all-time in Monmouth history.
Ragenklint will move on for consideration for the Academic All-America team which will be voted on in early June. Academic All-America selections will be announced on Tuesday, June 21.
