GOMEZ SIGNS DEAL WITH NYCFC

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – Former Monmouth men's soccer forward Julian Gomez inked a deal with New York City Football Club's (NYCFC) MLS NEXT Pro League team on Wednesday afternoon.

The Fairview, N.J., native will spend time with NYCFC's MLS NEXT Pro League team in the league's inaugural season.

"We are very happy for Julian," Monmouth head men's soccer coach Robert McCourt said. "His progression from his freshman year to the present day has been outstanding. He has always wanted to be a professional player. It is great that he now gets an opportunity to fulfill his dream."

This past fall with Monmouth, Gomez started in all 15 matches he played in while compiling 14 points on six goals and two assists. He led the Hawks in goals scored and finished second in points and assists. He provided some late-game heroics in the MAAC Tournament and sent Monmouth to the semifinal round after scoring the game-winning goal in the closing seconds for a 1-0 win at Saint Peter's.

As a sophomore, Gomez propelled Monmouth to its second MAAC Tournament title in program history and helped the Hawks secure their first-ever NCAA Tournament victory in program history with a 2-1 win over Bowling Green in the opening round.

The standout striker scored in seven straight games to end his sophomore campaign, including the game-winning goal in the MAAC Tournament Championship against Quinnipiac. He was named the tournament's MVP after scoring once in each of the three tournament contests.

Throughout his three years in West Long Branch, he tallied 31 career points on 13 goals and five helpers in 37 matches. He was Monmouth's top goal scorer during his sophomore and junior seasons, posting a combined 13 goals.
