STONY BROOK, N.Y. – No. 2 Stony Brook University used a pair of goals in the final 12 minutes of the match to earn a hard-fought win over the No. 3 Monmouth University men's soccer team in the Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) Quarterfinals Thursday night.

The Hawks came out firing as just shy of six and a half minutes in Jakob Friedman put a shot on goal that the Seawolves keeper had to save.

Monmouth continued to apply the pressure and fired off a pair of shots in the 28th minute. The second shot in the sequence was a header by Kevin DeCapua that the Stony Brook keeper just got a hand on to force it up and over.

The two teams continued to battle as a pair of late saves from Herman Johnsen sent the Hawks and Seawolves into the half tied at 0-0.

The Hawks and Seawolves went back-and-forth to start the second as a pair of big stops from Johnsen in that stretch kept things scoreless.

Stony Brook broke the stalemate in the 79th minute on a goal from Finlay Oliver.

Monmouth continued to get shots off with three in a two plus minute span but two were turned away by the keeper and the third went high.

The Seawolves added a goal in the 89th minute and claimed the 2-0 victory.
