RICHMOND, VA – James Harmstead hit a grand slam, and
Trey Dombroski struck out 10 across seven innings as Monmouth University Baseball (7-5) took down North Carolina A&T Friday in Richmond, 10-6.
MU jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first, with the big blow coming just three batters in on an
Alex Barker two-run double. The Hawks would tack on two more in the inning, batting around to take a 4-0 lead. After the Aggies got one back in the third, Harmstead's third home run in two games, a grand slam, made it 9-1 and MU exited the fifth with another run to lead 10-1.
The Aggies tacked on a few against the MU bullpen, but
Jake Fraher came on to throw two shutout innings and lock down the 10-6 win.
Trey Dombroski struck out 10, including three 1-2-3 innings and striking out the side in the fifth.
NOTES AND QUOTES
"Nice team win today; energy and focus was excellent as was our defense. The lineup was able to create some big innings offensively. Jumping out to a 4-0 lead with Trey on the mound provides a great deal of energy. Harmstead and Barker obviously had very productive days; they go, we go.
Jake Fraher came in in a big spot in a close game in the eighth and was able to close it out." – Head Coach
