NEW YORK, NY – The Monmouth University field hockey team traveled up to New York City Sunday afternoon and beat the Columbia Lions 5-0.

Annick van Lange scored goals No. 11 and 12 on the season in the first quarter, both in the fourth minute to put the Hawks ahead 2-0 early. The first of her two was assisted by Katie Yoder, and the second was unassisted.

van Lange's second goal of the game set a new program record for career points. She passes Trish O'Dwyer, who previously held the record with 143 career points. van Lange now holds the Monmouth record for goals (63) and points (145).

Maggie Downs finished off a tic-tac-toe passing play off the rush in the 19th minute to make it a three-goal lead for the Hawks. Senior Reese Bloomstead was credited with the assist on the play.

In the second half, Monmouth continued to control the game. Rosa Boender received a pass from Johanna Karlhuber and Meis Kengen off a set corner play and buried it in the cage to give Monmouth a 4-0 lead in the third quarter.

In her first game back from an injury, senior forward Aylin Aufenacker scored her fourth goal of the season only a few minutes after Boender's goal, making it 5-0. Morgan Kato assisted on the goal – her first career point.

In net for Monmouth, Phileine Hazen and Ally Tarantino combined for five saves and their second combined shutout in the team's last three games.
