FINAL SCORE
#8 Princeton 6 (8-4)
Monmouth 1 (4-7)
WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ – Monmouth field hockey lost to the eighth-ranked Princeton Tigers 6-1 on Wednesday afternoon at So Sweet A Cat Field.
The Hawks offense came back down to Earth after Sunday's 8-0 drubbing of Sacred Heart, but it wasn't without its fair share of scoring chances. Monmouth had 13 shots in the contest – six of them being on goal. Still, it was the Tigers that led from pretty much start to finish.
Â
Princeton blitzed Monmouth in the first half, scoring twice in each of the first two quarters to take a comfortable 4-0 lead into halftime.
Â
The Hawks showed some life, however. Just 38 seconds into the second half, freshman midfielder
Meis Kengen scored her first career goal off her own rebound to cut Princeton's lead down to 4-1. When the momentum looked to be shifting in favor of Monmouth, the Tigers would bear down defensively and add two insurance goals in the fourth quarter to win the contest 6-1.
