WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – Former Monmouth men's soccer goalkeeper
Sean Murray signed a professional deal to play with FC Tucson in the United Soccer League (USL) League One on Monday.
Â
"We are very excited for Sean," Monmouth head men's soccer coach
Robert McCourt said. "Sean has been a tremendous student-athlete here at Monmouth and has been such a positive representation of our program both on the field and in the classroom. Getting an opportunity to turn pro has been a goal of Sean's from day one. FC Tucson is a great chance for Sean to showcase his talents at the next level and I look forward to monitoring his progress."
Â
Murray completed his career with the Hawks this past fall after starting in all 19 matches and posting a MAAC-best 1.06 goals against average en route to earning Second Team All-MAAC recognition. He made 64 saves in between the pipes and logged seven clean sheets.
Â
The Fanwood, N.J., native was a staple in goal throughout his time with the program, playing in 63 matches and compiling 258 career saves with 17 shutouts. He was named the 2020-21 MAAC Co-Goalkeeper of the Year after his junior campaign and earned the All-Rookie Team nod as a freshman. Murray also was a three-time MAAC All-Academic Team honoree.
