NEWARK, DE – Monmouth University Field Hockey (3-1) beat a ranked opponent for the second time in program history, topping the 17
th-ranked University of Delaware Sunday by a 3-2 count. The Hawks have now won three in a row, with
Annick van Lange leading today's effort with a pair of goals.
Monmouth roared out to a 3-0 lead in the first 2:52, beginning when van Lange netted her first of the year off a corner. Just 58 seconds later,
Mackenzie McKillop put home a rebound in front to make it 2-0, and 41 seconds after that, van Lange took a feed up the right side and converted to jumpstart the Hawks to a 3-0 lead.
Julia Duffhuis scored twice before the intermission, one late in the first and one midway through the second to pull the Blue Hens within one. The Blue and White locked down defensively in the second half, posting a shutout and not allowing a single shot in the third quarter. The home team had three penalty corners in the final two minutes, including two in the final 10 seconds, but MU defended and picked up the victory.
