VAN LANGE LEADS NO. 22 FIELD HOCKEY PAST VILLANOVA

WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ – Annick van Lange scored three times, including less than two minutes into overtime to lead 22nd-ranked Monmouth University Field Hockey (4-1) past Villanova University (2-3) on Friday afternoon at So Sweet a Cat Field.

van Lange outran her defender down the left side after an Ally Tarantino save got Monmouth possession back in overtime. On an attempt to pass across, the ball deflected off a Villanova defender and into the cage for the winner.

MU trailed 3-2 after Villanova scored twice in 1:24 in the fourth to take the lead. After the Hawks pulled their keeper, a rocket from van Lange found the back of the net to tie it with 5:52 remaining. The Hawks led early in the second half when Lorane Vanneste tipped home a van Lange shot off a corner.

Monmouth jumped out to the lead in the closing minutes of the opening period off a corner, with Vanneste inserting to Hanna Mckie, who fired one towards cage that was tipped in by van Lange to put the Hawks on top. At the 4:05 mark of the second quarter, Villanova tied it when Rachael Overlander tipped home an Emma Schwarz shot following a corner to send it to the half tied at one.
