ORONO, ME – Annick van Lange netted her 100
th career point, but No. 20 Monmouth University Field Hockey (5-4) dropped its America East opener on Friday at the University of Maine (3-5) by a score of 5-3.
Maine jumped to a 2-0 lead, with Brooke Sulinski scoring both on each end of halftime. MU got one right back just 1:21 later when
Lorane Vanneste netted her seventh of the season on a rebound following a corner. van Lange topped the 100-point mark less than three minutes later, deflecting one through to tie the game in the third.
The Black Bears scored the next three goals of the contest, one late in the third before Sydney Meader got two early in the fourth. MU got within a pair when
Jess Tucker took a nice feed from van Lange and buried it, but the Hawks got no closer.
