WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ – No. 20 Monmouth University Field Hockey (5-3) exploded for seven goals, three of them from
Annick van Lange, in a rout of Providence Sunday by a 7-0 count. Hanna Mckie also scored twice and
Ally Tarantino registered her first shutout of the season.
Mckie got the scoring started in the first, netting one from just inside the circle before burying another off her own rebound in the second to stake the Hawks to a 2-0 lead. van Lange's first came off a corner to send MU into the half up 3-0, and
Lorane Vanneste popped home a rebound to make it 4-0 midway through the third, her seventh goal of the season.
Monmouth had a late offensive outburst to break the game open, beginning with a laser backhand shot to the top of the cage from van Lange. She would net one off a corner just 23 seconds later to make it 6-0, and
Sophie Dercksen buried her first of the season on a feed across the cage from
Colleen Craven. Tarantino made five stops, with the keeper and MU defense denying several late corner chances.
