BOSTON, MA – Monmouth University Field Hockey (0-1) outshot Boston University (1-0) 13-9 and freshman
Lorane Vanneste netted her first career goal, but the Hawks fell to the Terriers in the 2021 season opener on Friday afternoon, 2-1 in Boston.
After BU's Miya Denson opened the scoring at the 9:20 mark of the first quarter, it took MU just 1:25 to answer. Off a corner, Vanneste rocketed one off the left post and in to tie things at one on her first career tally.
After reaching the half deadlocked at one, the Terriers took a 2-1 lead early in the second half on a goal off a corner from Thalia Steenssens. Monmouth goalkeeper
Ally Tarantino made a stellar save late in the third quarter to keep the Hawks within a goal, and the Blue and White applied pressure in the final quarter but were unable to convert the equalizer.
