KANSAS CITY, MO – Junior defender
Robin Oswald (Bavaria, Germany/Maristen-Gymnasium Furth) and sophomore forward
Ben Zakowski (Glen Rock, NJ/Glen Rock) of the Monmouth University men's soccer team were named to the United Soccer Coaches Second Team All-East Region, the organization announced this week.

"I'm very excited for Robin and Ben to be honored among the top players in the East, especially in a region that has so many high-profile programs," said Monmouth head coach
Robert McCourt. "They were integral to our success this season, both on and off the field."

The duo is Monmouth's first All-Region selections since 2017 (
Colin Stripling and
John Antunes). In addition to the MAAC, other honorees came from the Big East and American conferences.

Oswald started all 10 games on the back line, leading the team to a MAAC Championship and a win in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. He scored two goals to go along with two assists on the season. In the 5-0 win over Manhattan in the opener, he registered a goal and an assist. Oswald dished an assist in a must-win game at Niagara in the regular season finale, then scored the game-winning goal in the MAAC Quarterfinal against the Purple Eagles.

Zakowski, an All-MAAC Team selection, led the Hawks with six assists during the 2021 spring season. In a must-win game at Niagara in the regular season finale, he scored a goal and dished two assists, including the tying goal and the game-winning goal in overtime. Zakowski was credited for assists on both Monmouth goals in the MAAC Semifinal. In the NCAA win over Bowling Green, he registered another two assists. Zakowski led the MAAC with 30 shots and 14 shots on goal.
