TEMPE, AZ – Senior Sergio Martinez (Veracruz, Mexico/Bachillerato IEDEP) of the Monmouth University men's tennis team has been ranked No. 117 in the Oracle ITA Division I Men's Singles Rankings, the organization announced this week.
 
Martinez becomes the second student-athlete in program history to be nationally ranked, following Nicola Pipoli's No. 99 ranking in 2017. He is the third Monmouth athlete to appear on an ITA ranking since 2014, beginning with a Victor Pugliese appearance on the Northeast Region Rankings.
 
The senior is a perfect 7-0 in singles play so far this season, winning five from the No. 5 position, one from No. 4, and one from No. 6.
 
During his time at Monmouth, he has won three-straight MAAC Championships and is a four-time All-MAAC First Team honoree.
 
The Hawks have compiled a 6-2 record on the season, including four straight wins. The team returns to action tomorrow at St. John's.
