WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ – Annick van Lange (Sint-Job, Belgium/ Annuntia Institute) scored twice and Mackenzie McKillop (Parkton, MD/ Hereford) added one goal to lift the Monmouth University field hockey team past visiting Maine, 3-2, on Friday at So Sweet A Cat Field.

McKillop opened up the scoring 11 minutes into the game with the first goal of her collegiate career off of a pass from sophomore Colleen Craven (Moorestown, NJ/ Moorestown) to put the Hawks up 1-0, before consecutive goals from van Lange extended Monmouth's lead to 3-0 early in the second half.

Maine did not go away quietly, as it pulled within one with six minutes left in the fourth quarter, but Monmouth held on with a couple key defensive corner stops in the final moments to hand the Black Bears their first conference loss of the year.

NOTES & QUOTES

The momentum definitely shifted in the second half, but I was excited to see the team maintain its composure to the final whistle."
