WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ – The Monmouth University field hockey team exploded for four goals in the first half to roll past La Salle on Sunday morning in the home opener for the Hawks.
Bente Steenhorst scored her first goal off of a
Mackenzie McKillop pass and Monmouth never looked back.
The offense was unrelenting with 17 shots on goal four different Hawks scored in the contest.
Aylin Aufenacker scored her second goal of the season in the first period to double the lead.
In the second quarter, Monmouth did not take its foot off the gas and added two more goals to take a 4-0 lead into intermission.
Sophie Dercksen scored off of a feed from
Bente Steenhorst to make it 3-0 and little over two minutes later,
Ireen Frenken put the game out of reach.
