PHELAN AND LEHRER LEAD HAWKS AT GARDEN STATE CLASSIC

NORTH BRUNSWICK, NJ – The Monmouth University bowling team continued its 2021 season at the Garden State Classic at Bowlero on Friday and Saturday. 

The Hawks went 4-6 head-to-head in the two-day tournament, highlighted by three traditional match victories over Felician, Bloomfield and NJCU on Saturday. Monmouth led the field in total pinfall on Saturday with a 185.8 average as a team.

Reigning MEAC Bowling Rookie of the Week selection Jamie Phelan continued the strong start to her collegiate career with another standout performance. Phelan led all individual bowlers on Saturday with a 207.40 average across five individual games, including three 200+ efforts.

- The Hawks totaled 4,644 pins (185.8 average) over five traditional games to lead Saturday's competition. 

- Jamie Phelan and Jenna Lehrer were each named to the Garden State Classic All-Tournament Team.

- Monmouth went 4-6 overall, with traditional match wins over Felician, Bloomfield and NJCU. The Hawks defeated NJCU in Friday's baker format. 

- Monmouth had three players finish in the top 10 of the final individual standings. 

- The event, hosted by Monmouth, featured seven teams. #20 Fairleigh Dickinson, NJCU, Bloomfield, Caldwell and Monmouth all competed both days, with #21 Sacred Heart and Felician participating on Friday and Saturday, respectively. 

NUMBERS CRUNCH
- Jamie Phelan's first-place individual finish was her first-career individual title after knocking down 1,037 pins for a 207.40 average. She contributed three 200+ performances, including a tournament-high game of 258. Phelan's 258 was the highest single-game effort of her Monmouth career and the best for a Hawk bowler this season.

- Freshman Jenna Lehrer also made a positive impact in her second-career tournament. Lehrer placed fifth overall with 956 pins across five games, good for a 191.20 average. Lehrer recorded her first two 200+ games, including a career-best 229.

- Senior Camelia Coffman totaled 892 pins for a 178.40 average and a 10th place finish. It was Coffman's third-career Top 10 Tournament finish. 

- Skylar Smith added one 200+ game, giving her 22 in her career, and placed 19th overall. Smith's 221 was a season-high score. 

- Amanda Zappacosta's high game of 174 was her best of the season.

- Monmouth's 975 pins in the traditional match win over Felician was a weekend high for the Hawks.

NEXT UP
Monmouth will see its first conference action when it travels to Greensboro, NC for the three-day MEAC Meet. The competition will be held at Triad Lanes Greensboro and begin on Friday.
