WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ – The Monmouth University field hockey team (6-5, 1-2 AE) shutout the visiting UMass-Lowell Riverhawks (6-4, 1-3 AE) by a score of 2-0, earning their first conference win of the season.
The Hawks struck first midway through the opening quarter on a penalty corner. Following a
Lorane Vanneste pass from the backline,
Hanna McKie's shot was deflected by a Riverhawk, leading to the first goal of the afternoon.
Late in the third quarter, the Hawks were awarded a penalty stroke and sent McKie out for the attempt. She converted, placing a perfect shot past UMass-Lowell goaltender Eleonore Boekhorst for her second goal of the match. Monmouth continued its strong defensive play throughout the remainder of the game and kept the Riverhawks off the scoreboard, putting together a convincing win.
