WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ – The Monmouth University field hockey team (12-5, 6-2 AE) officially clinched the second seed in the upcoming America East Championship by defeating UC Davis (6-10, 1-6), 7-2. The Hawks will enter the tournament on a seven-game winning streak.
 
The Hawks set the tone late in the first quarter, netting three goals in five minutes to build a 3-0 advantage. Aylin Aufenacker opened the scoring eight minutes into the first quarter off an assist from Annick van Lange in front of the net. Lieve Meidane scored two minutes later after her initial shot was blocked, while Hanna McKie netted her 12th goal of the season with under two minutes to go in the quarter.
 
Monmouth found the back of the net two more times in the second quarter. Meidane connected with Aufenacker early in the quarter before scoring her second of the game on a rebound opportunity with five minutes to go in the half.
 
Meidane and Jess Tucker extended Monmouth's lead to six following a pair of goals within the first few minutes of the third quarter. With her goal, Meidane put together the first hat trick of her career. The Hawks continued their strong play over the remainder of the match, earning the victory on the program's Senior Day.

Monmouth will have a first-round bye in the America East Championship. Its first game will be Friday, November 5 in the semifinals of the tournament against the winner of the UAlbany-Stanford matchup.
