ALL-CONFERENCE HONORS
Monmouth had two players named to All-MAAC teams earlier this week, with
Deion Hammond named to the First Team and
Ray Salnave on the Second Team. Hammond is the third player in MU history to earn a spot on the All-MAAC First Team since the Hawks joined the league in 2013, joining Justin Robinson (3x) and
Micah Seaborn. Salnave is Monmouth's first ever All-MAAC Second Teamer in seven seasons in the conference.
ALL-ACADEMIC
Three Hawks were named to the MAAC All-Academic team this week, with seniors
Sam Ibiezugbe and
Louie Pillari joining Sam Chaput on the academic list. Pillari and Ibiezugbe are both multiple time selections, while Chaput earns the honor in the first year he was eligible.
MAAC TOURNAMENT HISTORY
Monmouth is playing in its seventh MAAC Tournament in its third different venue since 2013, and the Hawks have compiled a 7-5 record in tournament games in the MAAC under
King Rice. The Hawks are 1-0 against Quinnipiac after a wild quarterfinal win a season ago. Manhattan and Marist are the only teams the Hawks have never played in a MAAC Tournament game, and MU will wait at least one more season to see the Red Foxes in the postseason after they were eliminated in the first round.Â
CHAPUT DISHES IT OUT
Sophomore point guard Sam Chaput dished out a career-high 11 assists in Monmouth's regular season finale against Siena, four more than his prior career best. His assist-turnover ratio in conference play is 72a-24t.
