EASTON, PA – Lafayette's Molly McAndrew flipped a shot up and over a sliding
Kate O'Hogan (Dublin, Ireland / Mount Anville Secondary) in the 77th minute to give the Leopards a 2-1 double-overtime victory over No. 25 Monmouth, Sunday afternoon at Rappolt Field.
Monmouth got on the board first in the opening quarter as freshman Collen Craven (Moorestown, NJ / Moorestown) intercepted the ball near the attacking 25-yard line and drew the Hawks' second penalty corner of the afternoon. On the set piece, junior
Hannah Schiavo (Glen Gardner, NJ / Voorhees) sent the insert to graduate
Stefanie Bigler (North Vancouver, BC / Seycove Secondary School) who set up
Ireen Frenken's (Tilburg, Netherlands / Odulphus Lyceum) sweep from the top of the circle to give the Hawks the lead they would carry into the second half.
Lafayette evened things up 4:31 into the second half, knocking in a rebound shot on the weak side post.
The Hawks had a trio of opportunities in the first overtime session.
Josephine van der Hoop (Rotterdam, The Netherlands / Wolfert van Borselen) was alone in the circle, but her shot attempt was blocked by Lafayette's keeper, Sarah Park. The Hawks broke out on a two-on-none fast break, but the cross was broken up by Park, while
Annick van Lange's (Sint-Job, Belgium / Annuntia Institute) quality chance towards cage went wide with the keeper drawn out. The Hawks' defense spoiled three corner chances in the overtime periods.
