AUSTIN, TEXAS- Monmouth University redshirt senior Corey Murphy was named a 2nd Team All-American for the second time in his final season as a Hawk. Competing in the second flight, Murphy's throw of 19.14 meters (62'9.5") in his third and final attempt was his best effort.

He ends his Monmouth career as the men's shot put outdoor record holder after breaking the record with a throw of 19.45 meters at the NCAA East Preliminary. Murphy earned Monmouth's 24th ever Division 1 All-American honors that includes 13 in the last 7 years. He also became just the fifth Hawk in program history to be named an All-American more than once after he finished 12th at the NCAA Indoor Championships this March to be named 2nd Team All-American. Jon Kalnas '02, Vincent DuVernois '14, former teammate Dylan Capwell '18, and teammate Allie Wilson are the others in Monmouth track and field history to be earn multiple All-American honors. He also becomes the first shot putter to earn All-American honors since Errol Jeffery in 2013.

"What Corey threw today would make the finals most years," said head coach Joe Compagni. "No one has worked harder than he has the last five years to maximize his ability. He's had a tremendous career."

Murphy will now wait to see if he earns a spot at the U.S. Championships in July. Murphy's teammates Danielle Steff and Allie Wilson will represent the Blue and White tomorrow night at the NCAA Championships. Steff will compete in the women's javelin finals which is set to begin at 9:15 PM and will be broadcast live on ESPN3. Wilson will run in the first heat of the women's 800 meters that is scheduled to begin at 9:44 PM and will be broadcast live on ESPN2.
