SLOCUM BREAKS TWO SCHOOL RECORDS AT UVA

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA/PRINCETON, NJ- Junior Khalid Slocum and graduate student Allie Wilson broke school records at the University of Virginia. The Hawks also had several other impressive marks and times at the Virginia Challenge that included the 4x100 relay team also breaking a school record. Another group of Hawks also competed at Princeton University for the Larry Ellis Invitational.

  • "We had some people really take advantage of a very high caliber meet in Virginia, and also big improvements in some areas at Princeton," said Head Coach Joe Compagni. "We still have some more work to do, but we are headed in a positive direction as we look ahead to championship meets starting in two weeks."
VIRGINIA CHALLENGE
  • Slocum broke the school record in the long jump by jumping 25'11.5" to finish as the top collegian. He broke the long jump record that was set 15 years ago by Troy Dennis.
  • Slocum also took fifth in the 200-meter dash by crossing the finish line in 21.41 seconds.
  • The 4x100 relay team of Slocum, Miguerson Joseph, Nadale Buntin and Bryan Sosoo broke the school record with a time of 40.74 seconds to finish second.
  • Corey Murphy finished 6th in the discus throw with a mark of 164'4".
  • Murphy also finished as the 6th best collegian in the shot put invite final with a mark of 59'1.5".
  • Rickie Casazza cleared 6'4" to tie for 6th in the high jump.
  • Darius Howe took 7th in the triple jump invite final with a jump of 48'8.75".
  • Sophomore Montel Johnson placed 7th in the hammer throw with a mark of 189'3".
  • Senior Brianna Stratz finished third in the 800-meter invite final by finishing in 2:07.81.
  • Wilson finished as the second best collegian in 1500 meters by crossing the line in 4:15.16. She broke her own record that she set just last season by nearly six seconds.
LARRY ELLIS INVITATIONAL
  • Mohamed Diagourga placed 6th in the triple jump with a mark of 46'3.25".
  • Ibrahim Massey finished as the 6th best collegian in the 100-meter dash by finishing in 10.87 seconds.
NEXT UP
  • The Hawks will compete next week at Penn Relays at Franklin Field on the campus of the University of Pennsylvania. Another group will travel to Bethlehem, PA for the Lehigh Games on Friday and Saturday.
