EDISON, NJ – The Monmouth University softball team earned two conference weekly awards on Tuesday, as junior
Amanda Hopeck was named MAAC Player of the Week and sophomore
Alyssa Irons was named MAAC Pitcher of the Week. Hopeck wins her first career Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference honor, while Irons wins her fifth of the season.
In Monmouth's 5-0 week, Hopeck batted 9-for-16 (.562) with six RBI. The junior went 2-for-3 with two runs batted in in the Hawks' win against Columbia. In the win over Saint Peter's on Sunday, she went 2-for-4 with an RBI single and a two-RBI single. Hopeck also scored five runs during the week.
Irons went 4-0 during the week with a 1.35 ERA. The sophomore pitched 26 total innings, giving up just five earned runs. Irons struck out 34 batters during the week and improved her season record to 20-7. She ranks 6
th in the NCAA with eight shutouts, and 8
th in the NCAA with 20 wins.
