BASEBALL TAKES SERIES FROM GEORGE MASON WITH 7-3 WIN

FAIRFAX, VA – JP Walsh (Spring Brook Township, PA/North Pocono) had three hits including a home run, and the top three hitters in the order totaled seven hits as Monmouth University Baseball (5-11) took the weekend series from George Mason University (9-8) Sunday by a score of 7-3.

Danny Long (Sellersville, PA/Pennridge) got MU on the board with a leadoff home run in the third before the Hawks added two more, with Zach Schild (Lincroft, NJ/Middletown South) driving in a run with a base hit and JD Andreessen (Depew, NY/Lancaster/Campbell) doubling for the third game in a row to make it 3-0. George Mason cut that deficit to 3-2 with single runs in the fifth and sixth.

The Blue and White put things out of reach with a pair of runs in both the seventh and ninth innings, with Walsh launching his first home run of the season, a two-run shot in the seventh. Schild drove in another run in the ninth before Walsh stole home to make it 7-2 Hawks. The Patriots would plate a run in the ninth to make it 7-3, the final score.

NOTES AND QUOTES
"Total team win today. We played with a lot of energy and created opportunities to manufacture runs. Thankful that James [Kelly] and Ryan [Steckline] pieced together a solid game on the mound. Kelly pitched out of trouble in the middle innings while Ryan came in and was able to do a nice job finishing. Both were extremely effective, and defensively we made some real big plays early in the game to keeo the score in check. Matt Graber, JD and Johnny Zega saved us some big outs." – Head Coach Dean Ehehalt

"The top of the lineup, especially JP, had a big day at the plate for us. A series of quality at bats helped us get three runs early and we were able to scratch out two late with two out and nobody on." – Ehehalt
