TRACK & FIELD WINS WINTER COLLEGIATE INVITATIONAL

WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ/BOSTON, MA – The men's and women's track and field won at home in the Monmouth Winter Collegiate Invitational. A small group of middle distance runners competed at Boston University and was highlighted by graduate student Allie Wilson broke her own school record by crossing the finish line in 2:02.65. This time is currently the #2 time in all of the NCAA in the 800 meters.

  • We really appreciate the opportunity to compete as a team at home with friends and family here to support us," said head coach Joe Compagni. "We need to keep moving forward in all areas and be focused and together as we head into our championship meets. But we had excellent performances in several areas."
 
BOSTON UNIVERSITY VALENTINE INVITATIONAL
  • Wilson shattered her previous school record in the 800 meters by more than 3 seconds.
  • Brianna Stratz ran 2:43.38 in the 1000 meters to finish 6th overall.
  • This time now qualifies Stratz for the U.S. Championships in the 1000 meters.
  • Chandi Piiru placed 13th in the 800 meters with a time of 2:08.47.
 
MONMOUTH WINTER COLLEGIATE INVITATIONAL
  • The men and women teams beat teams from Wagner, NJIT, Saint Peter's and Lafayette.
  • The men scored 278 points and the women scored 296 points, which is more than double than the second place team on both sides.
  • The 4x800 relay team of Kyra Velock, Amber Stratz, Sarah Crissman and Ashley Navarro ran a ECAC qualifying time of 9:14.6.
  • This time is also a new facility record for the OceanFirst Bank Center.
  • Sophomore Chibuzo Amonu won the weight throw with a ECAC qualyfing mark of 17.46 meters. Teammate Jordan Wildermuth placed second with a throw of 15.40 meters.
  • Amonu also qualified for the ECAC Championships and won the shot put with a mark of 46'7". Onnie Coles (43'8"), Jordan Wildermuth (43'2) and Kassandra Ketcho (42'8") finished 2-3-4 behind Amonu.
  • Iyanna Jenkins won the 60-meter dash in 7.93 seconds.
  • Chloe Angelini won the high jump by clearing 5'4" while Samantha Fellowes finished just behind in second by clearing 5'2.5".
  • Ashley McKinnon won the long jump with a ECAC qualifying jump of 19'6" while teammates Mariah Hubbard (19'2") and Patrice Baston (18'5") also posted ECAC qualifying marks to finish second and third.
  • Hubbard won the triple jump with a mark of 40' while Baston placed second with a jump of 37'4".
  • Amber Stratz won the 800 meters in 2:15.65 while Sarah Crissman and Kerri Powers finished second and third in 2:20.62 and 2:22., respectively.
  • Freshman Madison Turosinski tied for second in the pole vault by clearing 10 feet.
  • Trish Donahue placed third in the 500-meter dash in 1:20.87.
  • Junior Khalid Slocum won the 60-meter dash in 6.85 seconds while teammates Miguerson Joseph (7.01 seconds) and Ibrahim Massey (7.07 seconds) finished second and third.
  • Corey Murphy won the shot put with a mark of 61'4.5" while Andrew Huisman placed fourth with a IC4A qualifying mark of 51'5".
  • Darius Howe won the triple jump with a IC4A qualifying jump of 48'4" while Michael Pepper also qualified for the IC4A's with a mark of 47'9".
  • Dan Maida won the mile in 4:17.83 while teammates Henry Sappey (4:24.27) and Matt Bodon (4:26.45) finished second and third.
  • Dorian Jackson (7.14 meters), Khalid Slocum (7.10 meters), Michael Pepper (7.09 meters) and Nadale Buntin (7.05 meters) finished 2-3-4-5 and qualified for the IC4A Championships.
  • Daniel Gilligan (16.44 meters) and Brandon Davis (16.01 meters) finished second and third in the weight throw.
NEXT UP
  • The Hawks will travel to the New York Armory on Saturday and Sunday for the MAAC Championships. The men will look for their 5th title in the last six years and the women will look for their sixth straight.
