CROSS COUNTRY RECEIVES ALL-ACADEMIC HONORS

WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ - The Monmouth University men's and women's cross country teams were named as All-Academic teams by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA), the organization announced today. The organization honors every cross country program that accumulates a team GPA over a 3.0. Senior Kyle Mueller was also named an Academic All-American honor to complete his cross country career.

"Kyle had an amazing fall. He has put in a ton of hard work to reach a high level as an athlete and as a student in a very challenging curriculum," said head coach Joe Compagni.

In addition to this honor, Mueller also earned All-MAAC, All-Region and All-East honors at the Hawks' three championship meets in the fall. He also just missed a bid at the NCAA Championships after he finished 12th at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic regionals. The computer science major becomes the first honoree in program history to earn Academic All-America honors in cross country.

"Our team did an excellent job of supporting each other to excel both academically and athletically this year," said head coach Joe Compagni. "Both the women and the men had a team GPA over a 3.5 this fall. Excelling in the classroom is something we talk about as a team every week, in cross country and in track. We are proud to earn these honors from the USTFCCCA for cross country and we are working together to earn them for track as well."

The women's team has now been recognized by the USTFCCCA for the 18th straight season as an All-Academic team after they accumulated a 3.51 GPA. The men received their 13th honor in 14 years with a team GPA of 3.43.
