ALBANY, NY – A strong defensive effort led the Monmouth University women's basketball team over UAlbany on Sunday, 53-41. The Hawks held the Great Danes to just 9-42 (21.4%) over the final three quarters and totaled 14 steals in the win.

Sierra Green (Queens, NY/Francis Lewis/Monroe CC) led the team with 15 points on four three-pointers. Green also pulled down a career-high seven rebounds.

Akilah Jennings (San Jose, CA/Presentation/UC Santa Barbara) added 11 points, four rebounds, and four steals on the night.

The Hawks scored in double-figures in all four quarters for the third time this season, and got points from 10 different players.

Monmouth improves to 4-6 (1-0 MAAC) on the season, and will continue MAAC play at Marist on Thursday. Â

-UAlbany went on a 10-0 run after that, and eventually led 19-12 after one quarter.
-Green hit back-to-back triples to open the second quarter, and Monmouth trailed by just one with 7:22 left.

-With 5:51 left in the third quarter, the Great Danes were forced to call a timeout after a 10-2 Hawks run, resulting in a 38-27 lead.
-The Monmouth defense had its best quarter of the season in the third, holding the Great Danes to just four points on 2-15 from the floor. Heading into the fourth, Monmouth led 40-29.
-UAlbany scored the first five points of the fourth to cut the deficit to six.
-The Hawks answered with six straight points, including four from Green to go back up by 12 and put the game out of reach.
-Monmouth eventually held the slight 13-12 advantage in the fourth quarter, walking away with the 12-point win.

-Green went into double-figures for the 29
th time in 41 games at Monmouth.
-Jennings scored in double-figures for the fifth time this season, which ranks second on the team.
-Middleton ended with four points, eight boards, and three blocks. She ranks 10
th all-time with 715 career rebounds. Middleton is the only Monmouth player to start all 10 games so far.
-Monmouth outscored the Great Danes 28-10 in the second and third quarters.
-The Hawks held a 19-4 advantage in fast break points.
