EDISON, NJ – Freshman
Ben Zakowski (Glen Rock, NJ/Glen Rock) of the Monmouth University men's soccer team has been named to the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) All-Rookie Team, the league announced this morning.

In his first collegiate season, Zakowski led the team with seven goals and 15 points, all coming in the last eight games of the year.

The Glen Rock, NJ native played in all 17 contests in 2019, including 12 starts. He also led the team with 28 shots.

Zakowski scored his first career goal on October 9 in the 2-1 win over Rider. In Monmouth's last game of the season, he scored the equalizer in the 62
nd minute before scoring the game-winning penalty kick in overtime to defeat Iona, 2-1. In between, Zakowski scored goals against Rider, Saint Peter's, Quinnipiac, and Canisius. In the 4-1 win over the Golden Griffins, he also added his first career assist.

The Hawks have put at least one player on the MAAC All-Rookie Team for five straight seasons, including Zach Pereira and Anderson Asiedu (2015),
Andy Martinez (2016),
George Akampeke (2017),
Sean Murray (2018), and now Zakowski in 2019.
