Josephine van der Hoop (Rotterdam, The Netherlands / Wolfert van Borselen) registered a goal and an assist as the No. 21 Monmouth University field hockey team earned a 2-1 road win at Holy Cross, Sunday morning in the rain-soaked non-conference finale.
The Hawks, winners of seven straight, controlled play throughout the game, outshooting the Crusaders 30-10 with 18 of their shots reaching cage. van der Hoop got Monmouth started in the second minute of play, converting a set penalty corner play. The senior gathered a loose ball in the ninth minute and sent a shot towards goal that was tipped and redirected in front by junior
Ireen Frenken (Tilburg, Netherlands / Odulphus Lyceum) to build a two goal advantage.
With 41 seconds remaining in regulation, Holy Cross snuck a shot past
Kate O'Hogan (Dublin, Ireland / Mount Anville Secondary), who finished the afternoon with three saves for her 11th victory of the season.
