#25 FIELD HOCKEY UPENDS MAINE FOR THIRD STRAIGHT WIN

FINAL SCORE
Maine 2 (3-8)
No. 25 Monmouth 4 (8-4)

WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ – Behind a pair of goals from the reigning NFHCA and America East Offensive Player of the Week Annick van Lange (Sint-Job, Belgium / Annuntia Institute), the 25th-ranked Monmouth University field hockey team earned a 4-2 league victory over visiting Maine, Friday afternoon on So Sweet A Cat Field.

The Hawks, winners of three straight, jumped ahead four minutes in on a corner strike from Ireen Frenken (Tilburg, Netherlands / Odulphus Lyceum), her fourth straight game with a goal, but Maine's Brianna Ricker evened the score 13 seconds later.

van Lange scored twice over a nine minute span, getting touches on two crosses in the circle to give the Hawks a 3-1 lead it would take into the break.  Stefanie Bigler (North Vancouver, BC / Seycove Secondary School) capped off the scoring for the Blue and White in the fourth quarter, sending in a shot inside the far post off a broken corner play.  The Black Bears stopped the Hawks' run with 3:33 left in regulation but could not generate any more offense.

Kate O'Hogan (Dublin, Ireland / Mount Anville Secondary) made two saves for her eighth win of the season, while Hannah Schiavo (Glen Gardner, NJ / Voorhees) added a save for the defensive unit.
