TRACK & FIELD WINS ANGRY BIRDS INVITATIONAL

BETHLEHEM, PA – The Monmouth University men's and women's track and field secured their first win of 2019 by winning the Angry Birds Invitational at Lehigh University. Senior Allison Taub broke the school record with a throw of 15.30 meters in the shot put.

-       "We were glad to come out on top and we had a handful of great performances. As a team, though, we know we have a lot to work on and we know we need to get a lot stronger in the weeks ahead."
  • Taub becomes the first women athlete in school history to register a mark of over 50 feet in the shot put.
  • The men secured the victory over Lehigh, Fairleigh Dickinson and Saint Joseph's by accumulating 206.5 points. This is the men's sixth win at this meet in the last seven years.
  • Junior Evan Jerolaman won the 5000-meter run with a time of 15:38.47.
  • Freshmen Mohamed Diagourga and Naeem Green finished 2-3 in the 60-meter hurdles with time of 8.64 and 8.71 seconds.
  • Freshman Nadale Buntin placed 3rd in the 400-meter dash in 50.70 seconds while teammate Greg Stickle finished 4th in 51.61 seconds.
  • Khalid Slocum won the 60 meter dash in a IC4A qualifying time of 6.93 seconds. Ibrahim Massey placed third in the 60 meters by finishing in 7.10 seconds.
  • Freshman Louis DiLaurenzio won the 800-meter run in 1:54.63 with teammate Ryan Rafferty close behind in second with a time of 1:55.13.
  • Slocum also placed second in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.49 seconds.
  • Kyle Mueller won the 3000-meter run in convincing fashion with a time of 8:36.12. Teammates Matt Farrell and henry Sappey finished 3-4 with times of 8:47.60 and 8:47.85, respectively.
  • The 4x400 relay team of Stickle, Diagourga, Jalen Jones and Buntin won the relay in 3:23.16.
  • The Hawks swept the top three in the high jump with Harrison Bickmore winning the event by clearing 6'8.25". Rickie Casazza and Evan Adams finished second and third by clearing 6'4".
  • Randy Showmaker tied for second in the pole vault by clearing 14'5.25".
  • The Blue and White would also sweep the long jump with Slocum winning with a jump of 23'0.50". Michael Pepper and Darius Howe finished just behind with jumps of 22'9.
  • Pepper went on to win the triple jump as well by leaping 47'8.50".
  • Corey Murphy finished as the top collegian competitor in the shot put with a mark of 60'6.75". Brandon Davis (51'10.50") and Andrew Huisman (51'8.50") finished third and fourth.
  • Murphy is just one of 12 men in the NCAA to eclipse the 60 foot mark this season thus far.
  • Montel Johnson won the weight throw with a IC4A qualifying mark of 57'0.25". Daniel Gilligan placed second with a throw of 53'8.5".
  • The women won the meet with 183 points to beat Lehigh in second with 160 points as well as Fairleigh Dickinson (97 points) and Saint Joseph's (91 points). This marks the sixth straight time the women have won this meet.
  • Allie Wilson won the mile with a ECAC qualifying time of 4:56.16. Freshman Sarah Crissman placed third in 5:04.34.
  • Viviane Orleans won the 60-meter hurdles in 9.12 seconds. Mariah Hubbard (9.36 seconds) and Natalie Negroni (9.39 seconds) finished third and fourth.
  • Chandi Piiru placed third in the 400-meter dash by finishing in 58.45 seconds.
  • Iyanna Jenkins won the 60-meter dash in 7.80 seconds.
  • Brianna Stratz won the 800-meter run in 2:13.81 while Krya Velock placed second in 2:16.67.
  • Christiana Rutkowski placed second in the 3000-meter run with a time of 10:08.76 while Amber Stratz was fourth in 10:17.48.
  • The distance medley relay team of Crissman, Ashley Navarro, Velock and Wilson won the relay in 12:01.17.
  • Chloe Angelini finished third in the high jump by clearing 5'3".
  • Lauren Saifi cleared 10'11.75" to finish third in the pole vault.
  • Patrice Baston placed third in the long jump with a mark of 17'10.25".
  • Hubbard won the triple jump with a jump of 37'5" while teammate Ashley McKinnon finished just centimeters behind Hubbard to take second.
  • Taub's record breaking effort won the event by more than seven feet as Chibuzo Amonu finished second with a mark of 50'2.5".
  • Amonu would also place second in the weight throw with a mark of 55'6.5".
 
NEXT UP
  • The Hawks will split up next weekend as some will travel to Staten Island on Friday for the NYC Gotham Cup at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex. Another group will compete in the Penn 8-Team Select at  Ocean Breeze on Saturday.
