NEW YORK, NY – Playing for the second consecutive day, the Monmouth University field hockey team fell at Columbia, 3-1, Sunday night at Baker Athletics Complex.
Columbia scored 7:04 into regulation and added another goal in the 34th minute to take a 2-0 lead. The Hawks responded with 34 seconds left as they were awarded their seventh corner of the half. Josephine van der Hoop's sweep to the far post was deflected into the netting by Kelly Hanna to cut the lead to one heading into the break. The Lions capped off the scoring in the 48th minute.

- Tonight was the first meeting between the Hawks and the Lions since the 2011 season.
- Kelly Hanna, who was named the league's offensive player of the week earlier in the day, registered her second goal in as many days.
- Josephine van der Hoop registered her second assist of the year. The junior now has 50 career points and climbs into the top-10 all-time in program history.

Monmouth will head to The Great Lake State next weekend for a pair of matchups with Big Ten opponents. On Friday, September 7th, the Hawks will take on Michigan State before meeting Michigan in Ann Arbor on Sunday, September 9th.
