Graduate student
Casey Sturts and junior
Darius Howe were both named MAAC Field Performers of the Week yesterday by the conference. Both were honored after they turned in impressive performances at the Coach P Invitational at Moravian College. Howe is the first male Hawk to be honored in the outdoor track weekly awards this season. Sturts is the second female student-athlete to be named field performer of the week after freshman
Danielle Steff received the honor the first week of the season.
Â
Sturts won both the high jump and the pole vault at the Coach P Invitational. She claimed the victories by clearing 11'11.75" in the pole vault and 5'5" in the high jump. Her mark in the pole vault is the best in the conference so far this season and ties her best effort of the season. The high jump mark she posted at Moravian currently ranks as third best mark in the MAAC for the event.
Â
Howe won the triple jump and placed fifth in the long jump with marks of 47'5" and 23'0.5", respectively. Both marks qualified Howe for next month's IC4A Championships and now owns the top spot in both events with his impressive performances at Moravian.
Â
Sturts, Howe, and the rest of the Hawks will travel to the Virginia Challenge at the University of Virginia and the Larry Ellis Invitational at Princeton University on Friday and Saturday. The Hawks will also host a make-up meet this Sunday to make up for the postponed Monmouth Season Opener.Â
