HAWKS COMPETE AT FLORIDA AND LAFAYETTE

EASTON, PA/GAINSVILLE, FL – Monmouth track and field sent athletes to compete at both the Lafayette 7-Way Meet and the Florida Relays this weekend. The DMR team of Brianna Stratz, Chandi Piiru, Kyra Velock and Allie Wilson ran to a new school record time of 11:28.87 to finish just behind host school Florida to finish 2nd amongst collegians. Both the men's and women's program won the Lafayette 7-Way Meet over Lehigh, Lafayette, Colgate, and Binghamton.
NOTES AND QUOTES
  • "For everyone except our javelin throwers, this was our first outdoor meet," said head coach Joe Compagni. "In some places that showed and we have areas to correct technically and strengthen in execution. But overall we had some excellent results – competing very well some of the nation's best in Florida, and covering every event well enough to finish at the top as a team in Lafayette."
FLORIDA RELAYS
  • Senior Tim Wilson started his outdoor season with a 6th place finish in the hammer throw with a IC4A qualifying mark of 193'3".
  • Pete Flacco placed 12th in the javelin with a throw of 197'11" to qualify for the IC4A's.
  • Senior Dylan Capwell ran his first 1500 meters in two years and finished in 3:45.97 to place 6th. This time is the second best time in school history and qualifies him for the IC4A's in the event.
  • Chris Marco finished as the 10th best collegian in the 1500 meters with a IC4A qualifying time of 3:47.66 which is good enough for fifth best in Monmouth track & field history.
  • Brianna Stratz and Kyra Velock qualified for the ECAC Championships with times of 2:10.13 and 2:10.27 in the 800 meters.
  • In the women's 1500 meters, Allie Wilson finished in 4:28.02 to qualify for the ECAC's and move into the top five all-time in Monmouth history for the event.
LAFAYETTE 7-WAY MEET
  • The 4x100 team of Miles Watson, Miguerson Joseph, Ibrahim Massey and Griffin Shields finished second with a time of 42.92 seconds.
  • Senior Malcolm Chavis won the 400 meters in 49.91 seconds.
  • Greg Stickle won the 400-meter hurdles in 54.14 seconds.
  • Stickle also won the long jump by jumping 22'10".
  • Henry Sappey took first in the 5000 meter run by finishing in 15:20.91.
  • Andrew Tummino 52'0.5" won the shot put ahead of teammates Brandon Davis (50'6.25") in second, Andrew Huisman (50'6") in third, and Dan Gilligan (49'6.25") in fourth.
  • Bryan Cabral, Stickle, Jack Grace, and Ryan Rafferty won the 4x400 relay in 3:26.09.
  • Senior Jake Howell won the 1500 meters in 3:59.
  • Tiyanna Jenkins, Emily Schroepfer, Iyanna Jenkins, and Domoah Kutu-Akoi won the 4x100 relay in 49.06 seconds.
  • Rebecca Ley finished the 1500 meters in 4:51 to finish 4th.
  • Dana Lynch placed second in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 15.35 seconds. Teammate Natalie Negroni finished 4th in 15.7 seconds.
  • Freshman Emma Tvelia placed third in the 400-meter dash in 1:00.61.
  • The 4x400 relay team of Nioami Miranda, Tvelia, Domoah Kutu-Akoi and Amber Stratz placed second with a time of 4:05.68.
  • Michele Daniels finished the 5000 meters in 19:36.83 to take 4th.
  • Nioami Miranda won the 200-meter dash in 26.04 seconds.
  • Amber Stratz took second in the 800 meters with a time of 2:15.
  • Monmouth swept the top five in the women's hammer throw with Alicia Hester winning the event with a mark of 173'05".
  • Allison Taub won the shot put with a mark of 45'8".
  • Freshman Danielle Steff won the javelin throw with a throw of 131'11".
  • Jade Cunningham won the discus throw (133').
NEXT UP
  • The Hawks will compete next weekend at both the Colonial Relays at William & Mary University and the Sam Howell Invitational at Princeton University.
